Oh the clock has run its course and the year has spent its vigor. Once more we celebrate the dawning of a new year and the fresh opportunities that brings! If you are of a like mind to myself, you will be passing the turning of the year in the company of good friends and family. I would be remiss if I did not pass on a suitable draught for this occasion!
Not a cocktail per se, but a punch. A Champagne Punch with which to ring in your new year with plenty of cheer! You will need:
- 5 tbsp sugar
- 2 oz Curaçoa
- 1 cup Maraschino
- 1 small bottle soda water
- 1 bottle of champagne
- 1 cup rum or cognac
Dissolve the sugar in a punch bowl using the soda, Curaçoa, and Maraschino. Add the champagne and a cup of either rum or cognac (which will add some character, which champagne itself will lack) to the mix. Lastly place a large piece of ice, large enough to keep the punch cold without melting too fast, in the center of the bowl and decorate with fruit. Hoist a cup, toast your bosom companions and ring in a splendid new year! My best to all of you!
